Tallinn Music Week anniversary festival has added Ewert and the Two Dragons, Maria Faust and the opening concert by Kristjan Järvi to the programme

The new music and city festival Tallinn Music Week (TMW), taking place for the tenth time from 2nd to 8th April has announced new additions of this year’s music programme, including Estonia’s premier indie rock band Ewert and the Two Dragons presenting their upcoming release, acclaimed jazz musicians Maria Faust and Kira Skov and Kristjan Järvi’s international supergroup Absolute Club.

TMW 2018 festival pass at €60 (from 21st February €70) and the combined festival and conference pass at €250 are on sale at the TMW web-store. Single tickets are available at Piletilevi.

The anniversary programme of TMW focuses on a two-day entrepreneurship conference in Tallinn Creative Hub and the music festival with 250 artists from all over the world performing in about 20 clubs and venues from 5th to 7th April. Today TMW has announced 20 new acts from 8 countries.

Producer and conductor Kristjan Järvi’s Absolute Club will open the TMW2018 music programme on 5th April at the Russian Cultural Centre. In celebration of Estonia 100, the opening concert by Sunbeam Productions will take the audience into the club sounds from many different eras – from Birdland to Studio 54 and Palladium in London, from the Roaring Twenties’ jazz to today’s ambient, house and hip-hop. Combining new original music by the New York based Absolute Ensemble, Kristjan Järvi, experimental pianist Francesco Tristano, guitarist Gene Pritsker, and Estonia’s DJ and producer Sander Mölder, acclaimed jazz vocalist Kadri Voorand, and electroacoustic musician Mick Pedaja will create the musical “Wonder Land” – a land of possibilities that overlooks all borders and barriers, creating a new environment for imagination.

Single tickets for the opening concert at 40-55€ are on sale from today at Piletilevi.

Access to the opening concert is granted for ticket holders as well as TMW Priority Pass holders and the combined Conference + Festival Pass holders. The simple festival pass doesn’t grant access to the opening concert.

On Saturday, 7th April Russian Cultural Centre will be taken over by Made in Baltics agency and Sony Music. The Estonian “esoteric rock” band Miljardid will perform from their latest album full of sublime art-pop hits that won three titles at the recent Estonian Music Awards, Ewert and The Two Dragons, the winner of TMW 2011 artist prize, will premiere pieces from the soon-to-be-released fourth full-length album and Rasmus Rändvee makes his first appearance as a solo artist just after releasing his new single in March. Inspired by the likes of Charlie XCX and Grimes, singer-songwriter Iiris will also perform her new blissed out take on electronic pop.

Jazz musicians Maria Faust and Kira Skov will perform their joint musical and multimedia endeavor entitled “In the Beginning”, based on their album with the same name at the Swedish church on Thursday, 5th April. The “post-religious” masterpiece has been nominated for music awards both in Estonia and Denmark.

The programme curated by the Berlin XJAZZ festival on 5th April on Philly Joe’s has added the Luxemburg group KLΞIИ – moving between melancholy and dark tones and featuring a piece called “Tallinn”, as well as a group of brightest young Estonian jazz musicians Lauri Kadalipp Social Jazz to the line-up.

For the fourth time the Fenno-Ugrian association presents the music by Fenno-Ugric peoples at the TMW. The Black Hall of F-Hoone will be the venue for one of Finland’s leading contemporary accordionists Maria Kalaniemi and harmonium player Eero Grundström, both inspired by the lush nature of North Karelia. From Karelia comes the best-known folk ensemble of the region Sattuma, from Sweden the Estonian-Swedish duo Unejõgi that combines mythical runic songs with electronica. The North Sami rapper Ailu Valle and South Estonian singer songwriter Mari Kalkun will engage in a rare and extremist musical dialogue.

The showcase of Intsikurmu and Telia on 6th April at the Green Hall of Telliskivi has added the melodic and powerful “dogmarock” trio Nelson Can from Denmark into their line-up.

The two-day art pop showcase CryptoMarket at Kuku Club has added two artists from Slovenia. On Friday, 6th April the young and fierce underground band from Ljubljana Lynch will join the line-up with a set full of poise and power. Saturday, 7th April will see a self-proclaimed Slavic gangsta-geisha pop artist КУКЛА enter the stage of CryptoMarket, channeling both Milošević-era Serbian female singers and R&B goddesses of the Bush-era America.
