Held within the new music and city culture festival Tallinn Music Week (TMW) on 27 and 28 March at the Estonian Academy of Arts, the Creative Impact conference will be opened by the President of the Republic of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid. The official opening will take place on Friday, 27 March, at 9.30. The main topics of TMW 2020 are Music Industry 2.0, neighbours, and the role of culture in reaching Sustainable Development Goals.
Until 29 February, the TMW 2020 Conference + Festival pass is available for 175 euros at the festival’s webshop. Starting from 1 March, the price of the Conference + Festival pass will increase to 225 euros.
Guest arrival at the two-day TMW conference will begin in the atrium of the Estonian Academy of Arts will on Friday, 27 March, at 9.30. At 10.00 opening speeches will be given by the President of the Republic of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid, CEO of Telia Eesti Robert Pajos and the director of TMW Helen Sildna.
The objective of the opening panel of the conference is to create a wider context for the next two days of discussions, therefore, it will present future trends in society as well as the world economy.
At the end of last year, renowned Finnish innovation fund Sitra published the results of the study Megatrends 2020, which garnered a lot of international attention. Sitra’s leading foresight specialist Mikko Duvfa will present the results of the brand new research study and talk about how to recognise the significant signals that describe what the future might be like. He explains that “To get rid of apathy and the inability to envisage new possibilities, we need to be allowed to have faith in the future; we need to imagine several different futures and we need to have new language and images to make better futures understandable.”
A keynote presentation on the opportunities in music and creative industry, as well as their impact on society, will be given by Dr. Keith Nurse, the Principal of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College in St. Lucia and Senior Economist and Advisor on Structural Policies and Innovation to the OECD Development Centre in Paris. He has worked as a researcher and consultant to governments and international organisations in a wide range of areas such as trade policy, intellectual property, innovation governance, immigration and sustainable development.
He also serves on the executive bureau of the UN Committee for Development Policy. Over his long and multifaceted career, Dr. Nurse has served on the advisory board of the WTO Chairs programme and as the MA in Technology Governance at the Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), to name a few positions.
Held at the Estonian Academy of Arts on 27 and 28 March, the TMW 2020 conference will focus on the role of culture and creative industry in the new decade, following the UN General Assembly’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Challenges in the music industry and its connected activities will be explored further through the lenses of the night-time economy, irreversible trends of the streaming era, and more sustainable work methods. The conference will also take on the topic of increasingly pervasive problems related to mental health and gender minorities, as well as the necessity to change individual habits in light of the global climate crisis. The results and data from the two conference days will be summed up in a special presentation of the Music Industry 2.0 manifesto by industry experts, data analysts and researchers on Saturday, 28 March.
The full TMW 2020 conference and festival programme will be announced at the beginning of March.
TMW 2020, taking place on 25 – 29 March, is presented by Telia. TMW is organised by Shiftworks OÜ with many partners and co-organisers. The TMW conference music industry seminars and speed meetings programme are organised in cooperation with the Estonian music development centre and export office Music Estonia.
The international activities of TMW, aimed at introducing Estonia as an attractive destination for those interested in music and culture, are supported by funds from the European Regional Development Fund.
