The international new music festival Tallinn Music Week (TMW), set to take place on 27 – 30 August in Tallinn, Estonia, revealed new additions to its music line-up. Among others, the British dark pop duo The KVB, Latvian shoegaze pioneers Tribes of the City and Tesa, and renowned Estonian artists Jarek Kasar and Argo Vals have joined the upcoming event.
The showcase night at the Noblessner foundry’s Nobel Hall by the St. Petersburg’s Sevkabel Port and the Stereoleto festival has added the London duo The KVB. An audiovisual duo of Nicholas Wood and Kat Day is known for blending reverb-soaked shoegaze with gothic melancholy and minimalist electronic production and for collaborating with luminaries like Brian Jonestown Massacre’s main man Anton Newcombe.
The IDA Radio showcase in Noblessner’s Kai Art Centre now also includes beloved Estonian maverick Jarek Kasar aka Chalice, who will surprise the TMW audience by swapping his trademark sharp verbiage for a wordless instrumental demo programme. Well-known local additions also include the composer and guitarist Argo Vals at the folktronica night at the Telliskivi’s Fotografiska Centre.
The Telliskivi Creative City venue Kivi Paber Käärid will host the Manka Boutique Festival showcase, which has added the Finnish RnB punk quintet Grandmother Corn and the Latvian shoegaze pioneers Tribes of the City, whose powerfully dense and hypnotic sonic forms have been shaped among others by Greg Haver, producer of Manic Street Preachers and Super Furry Animals. After a few years of hiatus, the group returned last year with an acclaimed full-length album “Rust and Gold”, which will also be in the focus of their TMW performance.
The adventurous Latvian music scene will also be represented by the abstract metal fusionists Tesa and the post-metal squad Eschatos, who will perform at Sveta Bar’s Void Valley showcase, whose line-up is also updated with Sturle Dasgland, the Norwegian master of surreal soundscapes. The GROM showcase night at Sveta Bar has also added three new acts – the psychedelic rockers dreamcrusher!, making their live debut at TMW, and the “forest punk’n’roll” band MÖRT from Estonia, along with the noise rock experimentalists Olimpia Splendid from Finland.
New domestic additions to the TMW programme also include the young rap duo SuureMammaRekkaPoisid, who will be taking the stage at the showcase hosted by the new generation rap label LAGI at F-Hoone’s Black Hall, and the groove combo OLEN JONES, who will take the stage at the Noble Hall in Noblessner within the Funk Embassy showcase.
