The new music and city culture festival Tallinn Music Week (TMW) will take place from 27 to 30 August. In addition to the main showcase programme, the festival spreads live music also to the more unexpected sites across the city.
The TMW 2020 city stages will pop up at Viru Keskus (Viru Center), Nordic Hotel Forum, the front yard of the Telia headquarters, the Laagna community garden, Põhjala Factory and Botik in cooperation with Koplifest, Põhjala Tap Room, Velvet design agency and the outdoor area of Sveta Bar.
The TMW City Stage programme kicks off on Thursday, 27 August, at 4 pm on the Tammsaare park side of Viru Keskus shopping centre with performances from the Estonian folk-electronica duo Puuluup and the Latvian indie rockers Carnival Youth. Viru Keskus is hosting a total of six city stage gigs, including Estonian RnB and soul stars YASMYN and Anett, as well as singer-producer Chinchilla and post punk band Strange Idols from England.
From 24 to 29 August, a TMW info desk will also be set up on the Viru Keskus terrace, where the TMW pass holders can collect their wristbands and get general assistance on the festival programme.
Our foreign visitors’ festival home Nordic Hotel Forum hosts an intimate suite performance by the award-winning Finnish urban artist Jesse Markin. The festival vibe will also spill over to the front yard of the Telia headquarters on the TMW opening day with the Estonian supergroup Gram-of-Fun.
The festival will also reach the districts of Lasnamäe and Kopli. On Saturday, 29 August, TMW teams up with the community festival Koplifest in the new, burgeoning creative centre at the former rubber factory in Kopli peninsula. On the main stage of the Põhjala Factory, TMW presents a joint performance by Estonian RnbB newcomer Manna and jew’s harp maverick Meisterjaan along the Finnish orchestra TampereRaw and the Danish rock group Boundaries in the Botik yard bar. For Sunday, 30 August, TMW joins forces with the Lasnaidee initiative, aimed at developing the cultural environment of Tallinn’s largest district Lasnamäe. As part of the discovery tour of Lasnamäe, a tri-lingual performance by the musician and anthropologist Polina Cherkassova will take place in the Laagna community garden.
City stages will also reach the TMW focus areas Port Noblessner and Telliskivi Creative City. The best Estonian craft beer brewery and bar Põhjala Tap Room at Noblessner features performances by the Estonian rock band Up The Sky and the Hungarian one-man gang The Devil’s Trade.
Design office Velvet, located in the thriving Telliskivi area hosts the stage for Estonian electronic music wizards Macajey and HUNT along with the Latvian pop act Chris Noah, whilst the front yard of the alternative music hotspot Sveta Baar introduces adventurous ambient sounds of local producers Wondering O. and Roland Karlson.
The city stage concerts are free of charge and open for all age groups.
TMW 2020 will be organised in line with the rules in place for public events at the time of the event, in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. Additional information.
At all festival events, including the city stage concerts, the sufficient dispersion of the audience will be monitored, so that all participants could keep a safe distance. TMW will take into account the increased capacity allowance, but will not raise the limits to the maximum allowed.
TMW would like to emphasise that persons who have been infected with COVID-19 within 14 days before the event or have had contact with a COVID-19 positive, as well as persons with symptoms of acute respiratory infectious diseases (fever, dry cough, difficulty breathing), will not be allowed to attend the festival.
