Due to concerns over the COVID-19 virus, on Tuesday, 3 March, we invited our partners to discuss how to organise the upcoming TMW festival, scheduled to take place on 25 – 29 March, in accordance with the recommendations by the Health Board of Estonia. We are thankful to all partners who contributed – Estonian Tourist Board, Ministry of Culture, City of Tallinn, Tallinn Airport, Telia, as well as the festival’s tourism sector partners GoTravel and Nordic Hotel Forum, our partner locations of Telliskivi Creative City, Noblessner and Estonian Art Academy (EKA), the music industry organisations Music Estonia and Live Music Estonia, festival venues, and health and security partners Meeskond and Eldred.
Everyone came together with a joint goal of finding out how to strengthen hygiene measures during the festival and in Tallinn’s music and culture venues overall.
Special thanks to the Health Board of Estonia for joining and consulting us!
With two confirmed imported cases, Estonia is not a risk area. Our healthcare system is strong, vigilant and prepared for action. The focus of our national activities at this point is on prevention, which is also why we wanted to make sure that the festival operates along the same principles. At this moment, there is no need for restrictions on events and gatherings, but TMW would recommend that visitors who have spent time in risk areas (China, Northern Italy (incl. Lombardia, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna and Piemonte), Iran, Japan, Singapore, South-Korea) less than 2 weeks before the festival to consider staying home this time around.
Our government has taken action to ensure that the main gateways to our country and the city of Tallinn (Tallinn Airport as well as Port of Tallinn) are safeguarded with thermal cameras, to detect possible virus carriers. Tallinn’s hotels and restaurants have received Health Board guidelines, and TMW will follow the recommendations of the Health Board for a strict sanitation regime at events, venues and the conference venue. In collaboration with our security and medical service providers Meeskond and Eldred, we are working on mobile health teams and disinfectant materials to be available around all locations.
Here is a list of recommendations on what we all can do to protect ourselves and others:
At public events and international get-togethers such as TMW, we’d recommend you consider the following:
